The former Barnsley centre-back confessed his side ‘were up against it’ after conceding a two goal lead with eight minutes of normal time to go in the tie and then having to absorb considerable pressure in the first half of the extra period.

"We knew the next goal was going to be the killer," he said. "They were up for it and came at us hard."

But the composure he has drilled into a side that sits eighth in the North West Counties Division One paid off and the side bagged three goals in the dying minutes.

"We’re a team with a lot of spirit and almost always play three up front," he explained. "We know how to absorb pressure and will always create chances."

Davis’ team were named Carlsberg's 'Team of the Round' for their performance, something he said had been ‘very pleasing’.

"It’s great to get some recognition and it was a performance that merited some accolades," said Davis (pictured below).

The club’s Fifth Round tie on Saturday was postponed due to a frozen pitch, but when it does go ahead it promises to be an even tougher ask - a clash with Northern Counties East Premier leaders Buxton.

"We were the underdogs against Chasetown, Quorn and then Needham Market. We will be again against Buxton. But we’re used to the tag and like playing under it.

"We’ve had them looked at and they’re a good team – even better now they’ve signed David Reeves, the former Bolton Wanderers and Chesterfield striker."
