Stocksbridge Park Steels v Skelmersdale United
The FA Carlsberg Trophy
First Round Qualifying
3pm, Saturday 20 October 2007
The Look Local Stadium, Stocksbridge Park Steels.
Stocksbridge Park Steels already hold a remarkable FA Cup record, but they will be doing very well to emulate that in The FA Trophy this weekend.
Steels' Paul Jackson scored 10 goals in an FA Cup tie against Oldham Town five years ago, equalling Chris Marron's 60-year-old record.
Jackson went out at the top, retiring soon after in his early twenties, and even optimistic Steels secretary Mick Grimmer does not think he will see the feat repeated on Saturday.
That is when they are due to take on Skelmersdale United in the First Round Qualifying of The FA Trophy and Grimmer hopes a good display will make amends for the club's early six-goal exit from this season's FA Cup, at the hands of Gainsborough Trinity.
Winners of the 2006-07 Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup, Stocksbridge are currently 11th in the Unibond First Division South, and according to Grimmer, ‘didn't expect to be so high at this stage in the season.’
Skelmersdale, meanwhile, are placed 10th in the Northern version of the same league, but will be hoping they do not have to score ten goals to get past their hosts.
With a new manager, Gary Marrow, in charge the Steels have made a few changes for this season and Grimmer fancies their chances after having Skelmersdale watched recently.
