The FA Carlsberg Trophy
First Round Qualifying
Prescot Cables v Frickley Athletic
3pm, Saturday, 20 October 2007
Valerie Park, Prescot Cables FC

Karl Connolly possesses an interesting FA Cup pedigree, which he aims to translate into FA Trophy success on his Prescot comeback this weekend.

Part of the famous Wrexham side that beat Arsenal 2-1 in The FA Cup Third Round in 1992, Connolly has now returned to his footballing roots at Prescot Cables.

Cables manager Andy Gray certainly believes he can provide some invaluable experience when they line-up against Frickley Athletic at their Valerie Park home on Saturday.

"Karl's ability on the pitch makes him very beneficial, and he will be integral to the team," said Gray, ahead of the match.

The Unibond Premier League side have suffered a poor run of results recently, but Gray believes the return of 37-year-old Connolly, who also played for Queens Park Rangers and Swansea in his career, will give them an even better chance against bottom-of-the-table Frickley, who are yet to win a match this season.

He added: "We have had an indifferent season, and we need to establish some consistency.

“Karl is just the man to help us do that. A good cup result could help us turn things around."

Connolly's last appearance for Prescot was in 2004, when he scored a hat-trick in the 5-2 thrashing of Kendal Athletic in The FA Cup.
