Winning clubs receive £4,000

Despite all 24 Blue Square Premier sides entering the FA Trophy at the First Round stage on Saturday, it was the sides from the lower divisions who grabbed the headlines.

Bishop's Stortford were in superb form as they romped to an 8-0 win over a Canvey Island at Woodside Park.

The Blue Square South side have hit a rich vein of form coming in to the yuletide period and proved too strong for their Ryman League opponents.

Newport County ended the challenge of Bath City following their comfortable 3-0 victory at Newport Stadium.

Blue Square Premier leaders Aldershot signalled their intentions for a good cup run as they brushed aside Hayes & Yeading with a 5-0 away victory.

Burton Albion, still reeling from their midweek FA Cup exit to Barnet, travelled to Colwyn Bay and booked their place in the Second Round with a 2-1 victory.

AFC Wimbledon progressed with a 2-0 victory over Maidenhead United as Terry Brown's side continued their impressive run of form.

Histon are enjoying their cup adventures this season and cruised to a 5-2 win at home to Retford United to see Steve Fallon's men safely through.
