Stafford Rangers might not be heading to Wembley for this season’s FA Trophy Final but the Conference side still managed to pick up an FA Team of the Round award this term.
Rangers’ 2-1 victory over Forest Green Rovers in Round Two won the Soho Square vote and Stafford’s caretaker management team of Kevin Street and Neil Grayson were delighted to receive the Team of the Round award.
“It’s always a pleasure to receive awards. This one came at a good time for the club and is a welcome boost for the players,” commented Grayson, who, at 43, is still turning out for the first team.
It’s been a season of struggle at Marston Road this year with Rangers currently sitting in the Conference relegation zone and 11 points adrift of safety.
But their FA Trophy win came against a Forest Green side who are among this year’s play-off front runners and Kevin Street added: “Forest Green were flying high at the time and our tactics were just right.
“We negated the twin threat of Mark Beesley and the league’s leading goalscorer, Stuart Fleetwood, so the lads thoroughly deserve this Team of the Round award.”
