Top marksman Morison
Monday, 23 May 2005.
It wasn't just Grays Athletic who collected some silverware from Villa Park on Sunday after their penalty shoot-out victory over Hucknall Town, the day was also special for The FA Trophy's number one marksman for this season.
Steve Morison was crowned as the competition's top goalscorer with nine goals for his club, Bishop's Stortford.
The Hertfordshire side reached the last-four of The FA Trophy, beaten by eventual runners-up Hucknall Town, and it was thanks to an immense effort from former Northampton Town forward Morison that they made it so far.
The 25-year-old grabbed a hat-trick in the Blues' First Round win over Kingstonian, before following it with a brace against Lewes in Round Two.
Another double handed Stortford a 2-0 win away at Conference side Dagenham & Redbridge, a strike at Canvey Island to set up a replay made it eight for the campaign and his last goal came in the Sixth Round replay edging his team past Gravesend & Northfleet and into the Semis.
Morison was presented with his award at the match by chief guest Ray Houghton.
