Grays face Burton tie
By Beccy Goodwin. Monday, 14 March 2005.
Grays Athletic - the leading goal-scorers in the FA Trophy, in partnership with Carlsberg - will meet Burton Albion - the only team not to have conceded a goal in the competition, in the semi-finals, it was announced at the draw today.
Grays produced an inspired home performance in front of 1,800 fans to swamp National Conference promotion hopefuls Exeter City 4-1 on Saturday while Burton Albion ended Woking’s nine match winning streak with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Eton Park.
It will be Burton Albion’s second FA Trophy Semi-Final in four seasons.
The two sides will meet over two legs on Saturday 2nd and 9th April, the first tie being played at the Grays Recreation Ground.
Four other sides remain in the draw with quarter final replays to be decided tomorrow evening.
Conference South Bishop’s Stortford or Conference National Gravesend & Northfleet will be at home in the first leg of their semi-final against the winners of the replay between Conference North Hucknall Town and Conference National Hereford United.
This season’s final is to be held on 22 May 2005 at Villa Park. The FA Trophy is then due to return to its ‘spiritual home’ of Wembley in 2006.
It will be the fifth consecutive season that Villa Park has staged The Final.
This is the third season Carlsberg has been The FA’s presenting partner for The FA Trophy and forms an integral part of their support of football in this country.
Carlsberg is also The FA’s presenting partner for The FA Vase and The FA Sunday Cup, highlighting its commitment to non-league and grassroots football.
