Fourteen points clear at the top of the Conference, Barnet were the team to avoid in the draw. But they won’t relish a trip up to weather-ravaged Cumbria.

This season’s Trophy (in partnership with Carlsberg) has already produced a string of shock results, mirroring The FA Cup. No fewer than nine Conference sides lost in the Third Round at the weekend, including third-placed Halifax Town who went out at home to Northwich Victoria.

Barrow, fifth from bottom in the Conference North, had a sensational 2-1 home win against Scarborough and now go to Altrincham in the Fourth Round.

FA Cup heroes Exeter City, who face Manchester United in Wednesday’s live replay at St James’ Park, scraped a 2-2 Trophy draw at Billericay Town with two late goals. Today’s draw has sent the winner of that tie - they replay on 25th January - to Tamworth, the Trophy’s losing finalists in 2003.

Trophy holders Hednesford Town, tenth in the Southern League’s Premier Division, proved last season that you don’t have to play in the Conference to win the country’s senior non-League knockout competition. They edged Worcester City 1-0 in the Third Round on Saturday with Lee Barrow’s fierce right-footer on 38 minutes and now face a difficult tie at Burton Albion.

The Fourth Round takes place on 05 February and the 16 winners will each pick up £5,000.
