Winning club receives £400

Birstall Stamford manager Peter Barnsby felt 'gutted' to go lose in the Semi Final of The FA Sunday Cup last year, and miss out on playing at Anfield.

His side lost to eventual winners Counden Conservative Club following a tense penalty shoot-out, with Birstall Stamford going out on the last kick of the game, after a penalty bounced off the inside of a post to mark the only miss in the ten kicks.

However, their achievements in The FA Sunday Cup are something to be proud of, as they have only played in the competition twice.

Barnsby said: "Although we were upset at the time, it's an excellent achievement in itself. We have only been in the Cup for the last two years and reached the semi-finals in both."

The Midlands team's success so far in the competition has benefited from an excellent pairing up front consisting of players of Ronnie White and Chris Nurse.

The prolific Nurse has wscored seven so far in this season's FA Sunday Cup campaign, and was last year's leading scorer in the tournament, with 11 in four games.

With a game against St.Andrews on Sunday, the pub club, who do not train together as a team, have had a few new signings this season, including White and some promising young players.

"We know our level as a football team," Barnsby added.

"I know it sounds like a cliché, but we really take each game as it comes."
