Bristol City FC and Marine FC will host the penultimate stage of the nation’s flagship Sunday League football competition, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this season.

The Division Two club will be the stage for the encounter between competition newcomers UK Flooring and St Margarets, who got as far as the quarter-finals last season.

The Northern Premier League club, based in Crosby, Liverpool, will host the Merseyside derby between Nicosia, winners of The FA Sunday Cup in 1991, and their Liverpool Business Houses Sunday League rivals A3 (Canada).

The semi-finals will take place on Sunday, March 21, and at stake will be the chance to play at the world-famous home of Liverpool FC in the final.

UK Flooring play in the Bristol Sunday League and, in their first season in the competition, have knocked out two ex-winners – Duke of York in the quarter-finals and St Joseph’s (Luton) in the Second Round – and former finalist, FC Houghton Centre in the Third Round.

John Harris, manager of UK Flooring, said: "I can’t believe we are going to be playing at Bristol City. It’s the biggest venue in Bristol – we couldn’t have asked for a better venue.

"My lads are going to be ecstatic. A lot of them support Bristol City so to actually go there to play in the semi-final of The FA Sunday Cup is just like a dream.

"It’s been a fantastic season for us and it just gets better. This is only our third year in existence and we have gone from nothing to playing at Bristol City and the chance to get to Anfield. It’s unbelievable."

St Margarets, who play in the Northampton Sunday League, will be hoping to retain The FA Sunday Cup for Northampton after holders Duke of York were knocked out in the quarter-finals by UK Flooring.

St Margarets made a great comeback to the competition last season, getting as far as the quarter-finals.

John Moriarty, manager of St Margarets, said: "Considering where we play on a Sunday morning, it will be great to play at a professional ground and I know all the lads will be looking forward to it. It’s a massive game for us.

"I have been at St Margarets since the first ball was ever kicked in 1970 so it’s a dream for us to get to this stage."

Colin Sexstone, chief executive of Bristol City FC, said: "We are delighted to stage such an important local cup match.

"It is a prestigious game to be played at Ashton Gate and we are delighted that The Football Association recognises our ground as a good venue to stage it."

When Nicosia won The FA Sunday Cup in 1991, their semi-final was played at Marine FC.

Manager Joe Gibiliru, who guided the side to victory in his first season in charge, said: "The last time we played at Marine was in the semi-final of The FA Sunday Cup in 1991.

"We won 1-0 and went on to win the final so I am pleased the semi-final is going to be there again and hope it will be a good omen for us."

A3 (Canada) beat their league rivals Clubmoor Nalgo to equal their record of reaching the semi-finals of The FA Sunday Cup, a feat they achieved in 1997.

Tommy Bromilow, secretary of A3 (Canada), said: "We are really looking forward to playing at Marine. It’s a nice pitch.

"We have already played Nicosia in the League this season and they beat us. It would be great to avenge that defeat and to get to the final at Anfield. It should be a decent game and a good crowd."

Paul Leary, chairman of Marine FC, said: "We are delighted to stage such a prestigious game in The FA Sunday Cup, in particular with the improvements that have taken place on the football ground at Rossett Park.

"We are pleased that this is the first game we have been able to host for The FA since the three major building projects have been completed in the last seven years."

The ground improvements, which have included new spectator entrances and a new stand, cost £350,000, with £170,000 of the total funded by The Football Foundation.

The final phase included refitting and extending the dressing rooms, installing two new perimeter fences and building new changing facilities for female match officials.

Mr Leary added: "It is tremendous for us and reward for all the efforts we have put into improving the place. We look forward to welcoming the two Liverpool teams and their supporters."

Both semi-finals will kick-off at 3pm. If the scores are level at the end of 90 minutes, extra time of 15 minutes each way will be played. If the scores are still level at the end of extra time, kicks from the penalty mark will be taken to decide the winner.

The final will be played for the second consecutive season at Liverpool FC on Sunday 25 April.
