Doncaster College for the Deaf, FA Futsal Cup winners in 2005, struggled in the UEFA Championship.
Doncaster dream ends
Wednesday, 20 September 2006.
Doncaster College for the Deaf's valiant attempt to qualify from the Preliminary Round ended in vain when they failed to win a game.
After stumbling to a 7-2 defeat in their first game, Doncaster were then beaten 10-2 by a talented Toligma side, despite the English side taking a 2-1 lead.
Christopher Maylor and John Atkinson both netted within the first ten minutes, but Toligma, the eventual group winners, roared back with four of their players bagging braces in a one-sided game.
In their final game against Uni Futsal Team Bulle, Doncaster found their scoring touch and raced into a 4-2 lead thanks to goals from Alistair Dalziel, Peter Wood, Daniel Hogan and Atkinson's second goal in as many games.
But Doncaster, who qualified for the Andorra-based championship after winning The FA Futsal Cup in 2005, could not hold on, conceding three goals in the last few minutes to crush their hopes of a group victory.
