Third Round Results - Results

The FA Cup once again proved its capacity to surprise at the weekend, with four top-flight clubs being knocked out by lower league opposition.

Only six of the 20 Premiership sides are definitely through to the Fourth Round, for which the draw was made at Soho Square today by FA Cup legends John Aldridge and Alan Cork.

Cup holders Chelsea, who needed an own goal to see off West London rivals QPR on Saturday, have been drawn away to fellow Premiership outfit Wigan Athletic.

Manchester United, last season's losing finalists at the new Wembley, will host the winners of next week's replay between Reading and Tottenham Hotspur. United and Reading met in last season's Fifth Round.

Arsene Wenger's Arsenal will again be one of the teams to beat after winning three of the last six competitions. Today's draw has handed them a home tie against Newcastle United or Stoke City.

Oldham's reward for upsetting Everton at Goodison is a home match with Huddersfield Town, like Oldham in League One.

The only non-League side in today's draw, Havant & Waterlooville of the Conference South, could be lining up against Liverpool at world-famous Anfield if both clubs win their replays.

A Third Round that featured the lowest-ranked club ever, Chasetown of the Southern League Division One Midlands, also produced an average attendance of 16,023 that was higher than the figure for seven of the last eight seasons. And that was despite the fact that Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle, Manchester City and Liverpool had all been drawn away.

There was also a 9.1 million peak viewing figure for Aston Villa v Man U on the BBC at tea-time on Saturday.
