A record 661 clubs entered the 2004/05 competition, starting with the Extra Preliminary Round back in August last year.

Now it is down to the final two and they just happen to be the two most successful clubs in the history of The FA Cup.

Arsenal and Manchester United share the record for the most FA Cup Final appearances with both clubs featuring in their 17th Final this weekend.

The two clubs also lead the way in terms of FA Cup wins with United ahead on 11 wins to Arsenal’s nine.

Sir Alex Ferguson will walk out for a record seventh FA Cup Final this weekend having already won The Cup an unrivalled five times.

His Manchester United side has lifted the Cup in 1990, 1994, 1996, 1999 and 2004 and Ferguson's record in the competition looks even more impressive when one considers that no other manager has won the Cup more than three times.

When he walks out at the Millennium Stadium, Ferguson will also go clear in the list of most FA Cup Final appearances, having shared the previous best of six held with Newcastle United's Frank Watt.

His opposite number, Arsene Wenger, is leading Arsenal out for his fifth Final with three wins already to his name, placing him behind only Ferguson in the records.

5 Sir Alex Ferguson (Manchester United)
