The FA County Youth Cup Final
in Partnership with Pepsi
Saturday 26th April 2003, 3.00pm
Southport FC
A second half strike from David Hope helped Northumberland FA lift The FA County Youth Cup as they beat Liverpool FA in Southport.
Northumberland could have won by three or four, but had to settle for just the one. Only anexcellent performance by the Liverpool goalkeeper kept the score so low, as Northumberland attacked their opposition with vigour.
A huge crowd braved the rainy spells and were gifted with a fantastic, if one sided football match. Northumberland coach John Kiddie said: "We bossed the game from start to finish.... our goalkeeper never had a save to make".
Hope's goal came in the 56th minute following good work from Lee McAndrew. The result rounded off a superb season for the County, who also claimed the Northern Counties Cup.
