Jose Mourinho believed the best team had won the Community Shield after his Chelsea side beat Arsenal 2-1.
Didier Drogba's double was enough for the Blues to claim the victory despite Cesc Fabregas pulling one goal back to set up a tense finish.
But Chelsea held on and Mourinho was delighted to see his Premiership
champions pick up another trophy at the start of a new season.
"It's always nice to win a trophy and I think we were the better team on the day," the Stamford Bridge boss said.
"Both teams were good, but we scored an early goal and after that we looked comfortable and solid in the defence and good on the counter-attack.
"But I do not think this result has any consequence on the future. It has no relation to the Premiership season and no relation to the league game against Arsenal in 15 days.
"However, it is better to win than to lose and we can go home happy and with a smile on our faces."
And Mourinho says Drogba's two goals have set him up perfectly for a promising season after a tricky first campaign in England last year when he struggled for form.
"I think it is normal that the second season is better than the first.
"He knows his team-mates better, our style of play and the style of the opponents. And this year he has started properly, as opposed to last season when he came late.
"And maybe you can say that Hernan Crespo is responsible for that performance as well because when Drogba sees there is a big player on the side he knows he has to fight. That kind of pressure can be good for players.
"For his first goal he protected the ball very well and on the second he showed how fast and powerful he is going forward. Some players might have gone down for a penalty, but he kept battling for the ball to score."
