Gary Pallister believes Wayne Rooney will bounce back on Sunday with a big FA Cup performance for Manchester United against Chelsea.

There was a shock this week when the England striker was left out of Sir Alex Ferguson's team to play Real Madrid in the Champions League, as United crashed to defeat at Old Trafford.

But former Reds defender Pallister expects the 27-year-old to put in a big performance against the Londoners when they meet in the quarter final on Sunday.

Speaking about the tie to FATV along with former Chelsea star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Pallister said: "I think Wayne Rooney will start on Sunday.

"And I wouldn't be surprised if he was to make a big statement.

"I think maybe the mindset of the manager might have changed a little bit considering the result against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

"I think he might have rested a few players and given a few players a chance if they were still attacking the three competitions.

"But obviously they're out of the Champions League right now, so I think he'll change his mind a little bit.

"And I think he'll put out a very strong team against Chelsea."

But Pallister also knows United need to be wary of their opponents, with Cup holders Chelsea offering numerous threats themselves.

He added: "Players like Hazard, who is a really exciting player and Demba Ba scoring goals for them could be important.

"But there's so many players who could make a big individual contribution to the game

"So it's very difficult to pick one out because there's so many talented players on view."
