Brian McDermott is hoping Reading can return to their previous FA Cup form under his charge, as they prepare to host Sheffield United this weekend.
The Royals still have bad memories from last season's competition, when they were dumped out by Stevenage in the Third Round but McDermott prefers to look back at the two campaigns before that.
The former Arsenal player, who was part of the Gunners' FA Cup victory in 1979, led Reading to the last 16 in both 2011 and 2010, with some impressive wins along the way.
And he knows that a similar run this season could help his side gain extra confidence as they fight for Premier League survival.
Speaking to FATV following their Third Round win at Crawley, McDermott said: "We've had a lot of highs in the last few years as far as The FA Cup is concerned.
"But last year was a downer. as we lost to Stevenage in the Third Round.
"The season before, we got to the quarter final and the season before that we got to the quarter final as well.
"We went to Liverpool and won and we went to Everton and won.
"We had a great game with Aston Villa, when we were 2-0 up at half time and then went and got beat 4-2.
"So we want to go as far in this competition as we possibly can."
Looking back on his own Cup memories, as the Royals take over on FATV's 'Road To Wembley', McDermott still recalls that day at Wembley in 1979.
"I was in the squad at Arsenal when we beat Manchester United by 3-2 in one of the best Finals ever in 1979," he added.
"We were 2-0 up and they got back to 2-2 and with the last kick of the game, Graham Rix put the ball over to Alan Sunderland and he scored."
