Steve King knows all about causing an upset as his Macclesfield side aim to progress to The FA Cup Fifth Round when they face Premier League Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

King once took non-League minnows Lewes all the way to the Conference National in 2008 - the first time the club had ever reached such dizzy heights -  before leaving midway through last season following a second spell with the Sussex club.

He still lives in the south but the long commute to Cheshire from Sussex has not deterred King, with Macclesfield currently just five points outside the final Play-off places in the Conference.

"I get to see my children at the weekends, so it's fine," he said. "I stay in Macclesfield during the week, I don't find it too difficult.

"We had a decent win on Saturday, everyone is buzzing for the Wigan game. We have a good squad and with no defeats in 12 matches, everyone is looking forward to it.

"It was probably a good thing that the match at Tamworth (on Tuesday) was called off, it allows a couple of players with knocks more time for Saturday."

Should Macclesfield get past Wigan, it will almost certainly be the biggest result in their history, a sentiment that King does not disagree with.

He added: "It is a massive achievement to be in the Fourth Round. We weren't expected to beat Swindon away or Cardiff at home. Macclesfield have never reached the Fifth Round before in their history."

Striker Matthew Barnes-Homer could be the pivotal figure at a sell-out Moss Rose having scored twice in the previous round win against Cardiff.

And manager King is delighted at his progress: "He hasn't really settled elsewhere. We brought him in from Sweden and he's scored 15 goals for us and done really well."

Visitors Wigan are currently 19th in the Premier League and will be without long-term injury victim Ivan Ramis.

The Latics will be aiming to avoid being the first top-flight team to be knocked out of The FA Cup by a non-League side, since Sutton United beat Coventry City in 1989.
