The Pigeon Detectives prepare to launch their bid to perform The FA Cup Anthem

Pigeon Detectives will be the latest UK act to perform live in The FA Cup this weekend as they put their case forward in the search for a soundtrack.

The rockers will play their new single ‘Animal’ before the Fifth Round tie between MK Dons and Barnsley at stadium:mk on Saturday.

And the Leeds five-piece are hoping that the experience of playing in front of a football crowd can help prepare them for the prize of appearing at Wembley in May.

The winner of The FA Cup Anthem will see their tune played as the teams emerge for The FA Cup Final on 11 May.

With rivals Lethal Bizzle and Devlin having already staked their claims with live performances in the previous two rounds, it’s now the turn of the Pigeon Detectives.

They are one of six acts hoping to win the public's vote for The FA Cup Anthem and after the 'grime' of Bizzle and Devlin at West Ham and Stoke respectively, the Leeds United fans are hoping their brand of indie-rock can catch the fans' attention.

Frontman Matt Bowman said: “It’s every schoolboy’s dream to play in The FA Cup, and while we’re not lacing up our boots and running onto the pitch it’s still a massive buzz to be involved.

“Winning the competition and being behind the official FA Cup Anthem would be something we would all be really proud of.

“Although not as proud as our dads would be - they all wish we were footballers really.”

Drummer Jimmi Naylor added on FATV: "It's going to be a different experience.

"We've played to 50,000 at Glastonbury, but with a fooball stadium, everyone is looking down at you.

"But it's going to be exciting with people all the way around.”

The winner will be chosen by the British public after the Semi-Finals via the official FA Cup website and videos of the performances and artist updates will be available on The FA Cup’s facebook page.
