Tony Philliskirk is hoping that Oldham won’t be on the receiving end of an Everton backlash at Goodison Park on Tuesday.

The Latics travel to Merseyside for their FA Cup replay with David Moyes’ team after a deserved 2-2 draw in the first tie set up a second bite of the cherry for both teams.

And caretaker boss Philliskirk knows it’s going to be a tough test for his squad with Everton keen to put Saturday’s added-time defeat at Norwich behind them.

He said: "It'll be a really tough game for us, in some respects their defeat at Norwich is probably not a good thing for us.

"I saw David's interview after the game and he's obviously smarting after the defeat.

“Their players were saying they were very disappointed and I've no doubt they'll see tomorrow as a fantastic opportunity to be able to get through to the quarter final.”

League One side Oldham have already knocked Everton’s city rivals Liverpool out of The Cup and certainly upset them at Boundary Park nine days ago.

But with home advantage and a big crowd behind them on Tuesday, Philliskirk believes his players will have to excel themselves if they are to progress again and set up a Sixth Round game at home to Wigan.

He added: "I played there many years ago and it can be an intimidating place to play, Goodison Park.

"We're under no illusions how big a task it's going to be for us but we do go there with a little bit of freedom in the respect that there's nothing expected of us.

"Within the group of players, from what I've been seeing, there's a lot of belief at the moment so we'll not go there and roll over, that's for sure.

"We've tried to reiterate to the players that if we do what we're good at we'll give anybody a game.

“And they showed by beating Forest and Liverpool that on their day, they're a match for anybody.

“Hopefully they can perform to their true potential tomorrow night. That will be great for Oldham Athletic."
