Jim Cooper was delighted with his Metropolitan Police side after they cruised past South Park with a 3-0 Fourth Round Qualifying victory on Saturday.

Howard Newton’s header and another two goals for free-scoring Jonte Smith secured the victory at South Park’s Whitehall Lane.

Newton opened the scoring in the first half, which was enough to give the visitors an interval lead.

And within four minutes of the restart Smith made his presence felt again, by making it 2-0 before he wrapped up the victory later in the second half.

“I think that’s his eleventh goal in The FA Cup this season,” Cooper told FATV after Smith's brace. “ It has been an unbelievable run from him and it’s now up to him to keep it going.”

He added: “It was quite an even game but the score was a fair reflection on chances created.

“But the game could’ve been different because they hit the post in the first minute after a bright start. But we weathered the early storm and pushed on from there.

“Everyone is buzzing now. I’m just so proud of the players and the club. It was our objective to make it through to the First Round and we’ve done that now. It’s all credit to the boys.

“They love The FA Cup like everyone else and they’ve got their rewards. Now we look forward to the draw."

And in the draw on Sunday, Met Police were paired with Jonte Smith's parent club, Crawley Town, who they'll face over the weekend of 3 November in the First Round proper.
