Wembley FC took a step closer to Wembley Stadium thanks to a 2-1 win over Ascot United on The FA Cup with Budweiser Extra Preliminary Round on Friday night.
The tie was the first to be screen live on social networking site Facebook, thanks to Budweiser, and it did not disappoint fans in the entertainment stakes.
Ascot, who were making their debut in the tournament at the Racecourse Ground, went behind in front of their home fans after 53 minutes when Chris Korten opened the scoring for the visitors.
Ascot failed to let Korten's opener affect their confidence and on 63 minutes their endeavour was rewarded when Jon Bennett smashed home a penalty to level the scores.
The enthralling encounter was drawing to a close before Wembley ended their opponents FA Cup dream for another year at least.
Roy Byron secured their victory with a deft finish from 12-yards.
The victorious manger Ian Bates said: "I expected to win the game to be honest, I had been to see Ascot and their style of play suited us.
"We were disappointed to go in at half time without scoring after having about four good chances, hitting the post and having efforts blocked on the line and their keeper made some great saves.
"It just came down to us defending well and converting our chances when they came and thankfully we did in the end."
Wembley's reward for the win is a tie with Ardley United or Flackwell Heath in the Preliminary Round on 3 September and Bates is hoping for a better run this year year than the club usually enjoys.
"We never usually do well in the competition," Bates said.
"Which is a shame because The FA Cup is very special. Hopefully we can go some way to changing that this year."
