Doncaster Rovers Belles take on Arsenal in The Final of The FA Women's Premier League Cup Final on 26 February, and Belles manager, John Buckley, believes his team have every chance of success.
Arsenal are competing in their fourth Final in a row and have won the competition six times since 1998. Although Doncaster will take to the field in their first domestic Final since 2002, Buckley is buoyed by his team's current form and is confident that his side has the capacity to upset the history books.
"I'm really looking forward to facing Arsenal in such an important match," he said.
"They have been head and shoulders above every other team in the last few years and they are always very difficult to beat. People might look at the game and say that we’d be happy with a draw after 90 minutes, but we don’t want that. We know that if we play to our best and every player gives 100 per cent, which I know they will, then I'm confident we can beat them."
One reason for Buckley's optimism is the character in his squad. He has moulded a blend of talented youngsters with the experience of Claire Utley and skipper Vicky Exley and the club is beginning to reap the rewards.
"Right through the squad we have players with ability and a great spirit and they are now being rewarded for having such a positive approach to the game." he reflected.
"There are no cliques in the group and the way all the girls get on with each other is unbelievable really. It speaks volumes of the talent and the character all the girls possess.
"We’re all delighted to be in this Final and we now have to go out and get the right result."
