The Iron to host Final

League One promotion chasers Scunthorpe United will once again host the first Final of the Women’s football season at their 9,000 capacity Glanford Park Stadium, The FA Tesco Women’s Premier League Cup Final.

The game pits last year’s runners up, Arsenal, against Doncaster Rovers Belles, who are making their first League Cup Final appearance since 1996.

Eight-time winners Arsenal booked their fifth consecutive Final appearance with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Chelsea in the Semi-Final, whilst Doncaster Belles overcame Preston North End 3-1 to earn their place.

Glanford Park hosted the 2007 Final which saw the Gunners defeat Leeds United, courtesy of an injury time goal from Jayne Ludlow.

Peter Hough, Chairman of The FA Women’s Premier League, said: “The FA looks to take its showpiece matches around the country and we know that the north east region is increasingly seeing more and more girls and women playing the game.

“Glanford Park is a great stadium with first class facilities.

"On the field the club is having a great season and we hope that a large number of the club’s supporters - along with fans, families and teams from across the region - will come out in force to see some of the most talented female players in the country, some of whom will also carry England’s hopes in the European Championships later this year.”

Scunthorpe United’s General Manager Jamie Hammond added: "Scunthorpe United is delighted to once again hold this prestigious event at Glanford Park. We hope the match will help raise the profile of Women’s football in the local community.

"The game will also offer us the opportunity to develop our links with girls and Women's clubs within the community. I hope the match will be a successful event."

The competition is now in its second year of sponsorship under Tesco. Tesco are The FA's Women's Football Partner and their aim is to support the development of the game.

Through The FA Tesco Skills Programme and the Tesco U14 Girls and U16 Girls cup competitions, Tesco are helping increase participation in Women's football at a grassroots level. As a direct result of the sponsorship, The FA Women's Premier League clubs have received funding to support coaching, improve facilities and grow player development pathways.
