While most of the country suffered with storms on Sunday, it was raining goals in Hull, as Rochdale AFC ladies romped to a stunning 9-0 victory to reach the Third Round Proper of The FA Women's Cup.

In difficult conditions, Holly Newman and Anna Renken both notched hat-tricks while Steph Bell's brace and Lisa Wood's strike capped a marvellous victory.

The visitors took less than five minutes to get into their stride with Renken clipping the ball past Rosie Emerton to set Rochdale on their way.

Hull held out until the 30th minute but Bell blasted Rochdale further in front and it could have been a lot worse had it not been for the heroics of Emerton in the Tigers' goal.

But Rochdale were a class apart and the third goal in the 40th minute was fit enough to grace Wembley. Sarah Buffel and Claire Pearson exchanged some sublime passes before Bell found space on the left and her cross was brilliantly nodded in by Wood. There must have been 13 passes in the build up as Hull were ran ragged.

Newman profited from some slack defending right on half-time to make it four and she added another five minutes after the break. Following Bell's strike on 54 minutes, Newman's hat-trick arrived in some style as she smashed the ball home on 67 minutes to claim the match ball.

But Rochdale were not finished, with Buffel, Bell and Pearson all testing keeper Emerton, while the Hull strikers found no real chances against a resolute visiting defence.

Renken, superb all match, was then rewarded with the hat-trick she deserved following two quickfire strikes on 85 and 90 minutes.

Emerton cut a despondent figure in the Hull goal but in truth she was powerless to stop some clinical finishing - it makes ominous reading for Whitley, who face Rochdale in the Third Round.
