There were plenty of goals up and down the country, despite the adverse weather, on a busy Saturday of FA Vase Second Round Proper action.
Last season’s FA Vase runners-up, Glossop North End, continued their efforts to reach Wembley for a second successive year with a narrow 1-0 victory over Dunston UTS.
The Derbyshire side have had a mixed start to their North West Counties Premier Division campaign, lying in midtable, but put their patchy league form temporarily behind them infront of 378 supporters at Surrey Street.
Danny Yates snatched the game’s only goal after just ten minutes and despite late Dunston pressure, it was Glossop who progressed to the Third Round Proper.
Meanwhile, Northern League Division One pacesetters Spennymoor Town romped through to the next stage with a convincing 5-1 victory at Bedlington Terriers.
There were also impressive wins for Hertfordshire club Royston Town, who triumphed 4-0 on the road at Wellingborough Town, and for Oxfordshire’s Witney United, 5-1 winners over Erith and Belvedere.
In the north-east, West Auckland Town cruised to a 4-0 victory over former FA Vase winners Whickham, while Northern League Division Two side Marske United and County Durham’s Crook Town both comfortably progressed.
Elsewhere, there was plenty of entertainment on the south coast where Eastbourne Town triumphed 4-2 over Hamble ASSC at The Saffrons, while Plymouth Parkway edged Bitton AFC 3-2 at Bolitho Park.
