Steve Young has pleaded with his Glossop side not to put him through the wringer again ahead of their crucial FA Vase semi-final second leg against Chalfont St Peter on Saturday.

Dave Hodges and Rick Bailey kept Glossop in contention by scoring in the final 17 minutes to salvage a 3-3 draw.

The Derbyshire side looked dead and buried before their late fight back and Young admitted he had feared the worst.

"It wasn't looking good for us when we were 3-1 down. We were not playing the best football but luckily we got back into the game," he said.

"Nerves play a part because we are so close to the Final - I'll be happy with a dull 1-0 in the second leg."

Both teams are one step away from playing at Wembley and after their stirring comeback in the first leg, Young reckons his team's fighting spirit will prove crucial as Glossop bid to walk out at the home of football.

"We have shown great belief to get where we are and to come back from two goals down is a great testament to the players' character," he said.

"If we can show that type of desire we will have a fighting chance of making the Final."

A usual home crowd for the North West Counties Premier side is around 150, but Young is expecting at least 10 times that when his side run out onto the pitch at Surrey Street on Saturday.

And the Glossop manager says the bumper crowd can roar the team on to victory in their second leg showdown.

"We have sold almost all our tickets and I am sure the remaining few will go, too," he added.

"I know the crowd will be excellent for us - they always are - and they can really be a factor in the game.

"We were excellent away from home in the first leg, but now we have the crowd behind us and that can really make a difference."
