Hayes & Yeading United v Chelmsford City
The FA Carlsberg Trophy
Third Round Qualifying
Saturday 22 November 2008
Winning clubs will receive £4,000 from The FA
Hayes & Yeading United will be hoping to secure their safe passage through The FA Trophy Third Round Qualifying this weekend - and banish the cobwebs from manager Garry Haylock's pockets in the process.
Club secretary Bill Gritt feels sure that, if they can overcome Conference South leaders Chelmsford City, the team will go out and celebrate. But the question is, who'll be paying?
Gritt said: "Gary might take them out for a drink, but you've probably got more chance of getting struck by lightening than him putting his hand in his pocket!"
The Middlesex side will be aiming to avenge their opening day league defeat at the hands of Chelmsford, scoring a psychological victory over the side they expect to be challenging for automatic promotion by the end of the season.
Although both sides have been in prolific form, Hayes will be hoping former Brentford striker Scott Fitzgerald and strike partner Josh Scott can add to their tally of ten goals apiece this season.
"They've both been banging in goals and let's hope they do so at the weekend as well," added Gritt.
"Chelmsford are a good side, but we were unlucky to lose 1-0 to them on the first day of the season. We really should have got something out of the game."
The visitors will be keen to bounce back from a recent shock home defeat to Bath City and will be looking to top scorer Dave Rainford to give them the edge over their title rivals.
