The FA Carlsberg Trophy

Swayne's goal challenge

Andover v Newport County
The FA Carlsberg Trophy
Third Round Qualifying
Saturday 22 November 2008
Winning clubs will receive £4,000 from The FA

Kyle Swayne will aim to maintain his superb record of scoring in every round of The FA Trophy this season, as Andover attempt to cause a shock against Newport County in the Third Round Qualifying this weekend.

The Andover striker has been in red-hot form and his goals could help the Southern League Division One South & West side sink their Conference South opponents, who are managed by former Wimbledon and Bolton forward Dean Holdsworth.

Newport have been struggling this season, with just three wins from their opening 17 league games, although Andover are also at the bottom of their division with only 11 points from 13 matches.

However, general secretary Chris Jeremy is optimistic the Hampshire side can get a result, with Swayne having scored three goals in The Trophy already this season.

"Kyle has scored some really important goals for us and he'd be playing at a much higher level if it wasn't for his injury problems," he explained.

"We had Newport watched when they played both Havant and Basingstoke recently. They didn't look too special and we believe we can get a result.

"When the draw was made, we said it would be good to get a side in the Conference and we got our wish.

"We've got a fair chance. I know we are down towards the bottom of our own table, but our performances are better than that."
