There were thrills and spills up and down the country on an entertaining Saturday of FA Carlsberg Trophy football, with goals high on the agenda in day’s Third Round Qualifying ties.
This was certainly the case in Essex, where AFC Hornchurch fought back from 4-2 down to earn a 4-4 draw against Chelmsford City at Melbourne Stadium.
Chelmsford, currently sitting in eighth in the Blue Square Conference South, looked to be coasting to victory after goals from Antonio Murray, Ricky Modeste, Matt Lock and Ricky Holmes saw the hosts leading 4-2 with just eight minutes remaining.
However, an 82nd minute penalty from former Birmingham City midfielder Jonathan Hunt, his second goal of the game, and a dramatic 85th minute equaliser from Mark Janney earned Hornchurch a replay.
Meanwhile, goals from Ashley Nicholls, Hassan Sulaiman and substitute Louis Riddle saw Hertforshire side Bishops Stortford ease to an impressive 3-0 victory over Ramsgate, while Ryman Division One Northwood earned a surprise 2-1 victory over Basingstoke.
However, Northwich Victoria, who defeated League One side Charlton in The FA Cup First Round Proper, slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town thanks to goals either side of half-time from Tom Cahill and Mike Wilde.
There were also wins for Norfolk side Kings Lynn, who edged out Salford 1-0 thanks to a Carl Heggs goal, and for Maidstone United, who defeated Bromley 1-0.
