Goals were high on the agenda in a busy day of First Round Qualifying action in The FA Trophy on Saturday, with 70 ties taking place in all.
Non-League clubs up and down the country will have started the day with thoughts of Wembley, and for some that dream is now one step closer.
Thatcham Town, of the Zamaretto League Division One South and West, showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with in this season’s competition.
The Berkshire club, who sit fifth in their league, found the back of the net no less than eight times in a comprehensive 8-1 rout of Bracknell Town.
Other high scorers included Surrey’s Merstham, who romped past Hastings United 6-1 at the Pilot Field, and Bedfordshire’s Arlesey Town, 6-1 winners at Corinthian Casuals.
There were also plenty of ties that went down to the wire, with Boston United edging Chorley 3-2 in a five-goal thriller at York Street, while Hungerford Town, another Zamaretto League Division One South and West side, triumphed 4-3 over Taunton Town.
However, a reply will be required to settle an end-to-end battle in west Sussex that saw Horsham and Barton Rovers play out a frenetic 4-4 draw. Elsewhere, there were comfortable victories for Skelmersdale United, Truro City and Carshalton Athletic.
Two further First Qualifying Round ties will be played on Sunday, with Cray Wanderers hosting Burgess Hill Town in Bromley and Godalming Town traveling to Cirencester Town.
