Goalkeeping hero Tom Ross could barely contain his joy after his man-of-the-match performance in Suffolk's 2-1 FA County Youth Cup Final victory over Cambridgeshire at Ipswich Town's Portman Road.

"When the final whistle went I felt like crying," said the young stopper, whose second-half saves won the game for Suffolk. "This means so much to me and my team-mates."

Despite racing into an early two-goal lead, Suffolk were hanging on for the majority of the game as Cambridgeshire created a number of great chances to level the score.

But Ross denied Adam Marriott on at least four occasions, and when Cambridgeshire did get the ball past him, the luckless striker was penalised for hand-ball.

Ross's heroics helped Suffolk to their second County Youth Cup in four years, and the 'keeper hopes that he can use this performance as a springboard to greater things.

He said: "I don't know what it will do for my professional career but I just want to carry on playing football and, who knows, maybe somebody will come in for me."
