Tuesday, 20 February 2007.
The Wembley Stadium Community Day for local Brent residents will move from Saturday, 3 March to Saturday, 17 March 2007.
Individuals who have successfully applied to Brent Council for tickets will still be able to come on the new date. There will also be an increased allocation of spaces to accommodate the demand from local people who want to see the stadium.
Wembley Stadium expects up to 60,000 people to attend the event which will allow the residents of Brent an exclusive look inside the venue. Ticket holders will also help the organisers test facilities such as the turnstiles, escalators and toilets.
On the pitch, plans remain the same. Visitors will watch local Brent youngsters take part in a ‘skills and drills’ session whilst celebrity teams compete in a mini-football tournament.
The Community Day has moved back a fortnight because final pre-event testing has taken longer than first anticipated. Despite this, Wembley Stadium, The FA and constructors Multiplex all remain confident that Wembley remains on track to host the 2007 FA Cup Final.
Wembley Stadium Managing Director Alex Horne said: “We still remain on track to host the 2007 FA Cup Final. The FA will only announce the 2007 Cup Final at Wembley once the stadium has been granted its General Safety Certificate.
“We are on course to go through the necessary testing procedures in order to get the certificate. I’d like to thank Brent Council for being understanding and helpful as we look to start that formal process.
“Community Day is the first step towards gaining the certificate. ‘Ramp-up’ events have always had to remain flexible in terms of date due to the complex nature of the project, hence today’s change. I’d like to apologise to those Brent residents who had made plans to come and see us on 3 March but hope they will be able to visit on 17 March instead.”
Further ramp-up announcements will be made by Wembley Stadium and The FA in due course.
