On Saturday 3 March 2007 Wembley Stadium will be opening its gates to local Brent residents at a Community Day.

This ticketed event will form part of the preparation towards opening the new Stadium and will mean that those living and working in close proximity to the Stadium are the first to get the chance to see inside the new venue.

Residents will be asked to play a crucial part in the initial testing of some key stadium facilities and will be making history as they help to get the Stadium open. The event will form part of the stadium testing process that will also include at least two ramp-up events, details of which will be announced in due course.

Not only will visitors test-run the stadium's turnstiles, escalators and join together for a collective flush of the Stadium loos, but they'll also get the chance to see some action on the famous Wembley pitch.

Visitors will be treated to seeing a group of Brent youngsters take part in a soccer “skills and drills” session on the hallowed turf and have the exclusive opportunity to see celebrity teams come face to face in a mini-tournament.

It won’t only be budding football stars of the future that get to show off their skills, musicians and dancers from the local area will also be showcasing their talents as they entertain visitors in the stadium’s concourses.

Alex Horne, Wembley Stadium’s Managing Director said: “We have been working closely with our colleagues at Brent Council to ensure that local Brent residents are the first to see inside the new Stadium. Local people will not only be getting a preview of the new world-class venue but will also play an important part in helping us to get the national stadium up and running for the rest of the nation to enjoy.”

Councillor Paul Lorber, Leader of Brent Council said: “It is fitting that prior to its official opening Brent residents and businesses will be the first to experience the new Wembley Stadium, which has already dramatically changed the local landscape and will bring economic and regeneration benefits for the local community. This will be an exciting and memorable day for local people as they help to get the Stadium ready to open so that it can once again host world-class sports and music events.”
