World Cup bid delivered

England delivers its official World Cup bid to FIFA for 2018 and 2022.

England’s official World Cup Bid Registration form was delivered today to FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich, confirming that England will bid to bring the FIFA World CupTM to the country in either 2018 or 2022.

Bidding countries were requested to declare their intention to bid for one specific tournament or prepare presentations to host either 2018 or 2022.

Bid Chairman Lord Triesman said: “Today marks another step forward on our journey to bring the World Cup to England and our team are focused on delivering the best bid possible to FIFA. By declaring our interest for both the 2018 and 2022 tournaments we are maximising our chances of winning the right to host the world’s greatest sporting occasion.”

FIFA is expected to distribute the full technical criteria to all bidding nations next month. The decision on both tournaments will be made in December 2010.
