LOCOG is the organisation that is planning and staging the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The LOCOG Football team will manage and deliver the men’s and women’s Olympic competition as well as the five-a-side and seven-a-side competitions as part of the Paralympic Games.

There will be 28 teams participating in the Olympic Football competition comprising 16 men’s and 12 women’s teams. In total, 504 players will compete across 18 days of competition resulting in 58 matches taking place between 25 July 2012 and 11 August 2012. Similarly, there will be 16 teams participating in the Paralympic Football competition, equating to 160 athletes competing across five days of competition to conclude the seven-a-side and five-a-side competitions.

Key responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • Help the Football Manager run the Olympic and Paralympic Football programmes.
  • Deputise as the focal point for International Federation/International Paralympic Sport Federation (IF/IPSF) contact about competition issues when the Football Manager is unavailable.
  • Liaise with other LOCOG departments to ensure the delivery of support services, such as accreditation, security, transport, medical, media, villages, venue operations, venues, host broadcaster and volunteers, are coordinated as instructed.
  • Work with the Football Manager and other departments to organise and conduct the official LOCOG test event programme.
  • Work with the LOCOG Procurement team to manage the equipment required for the sports’ competition.
  • Work with LOCOG Accommodation and Villages teams on the selection and development plans for athlete accommodation in the Football co-host cities.
  • Work with the LOCOG Volunteering team to source and manage 28 Team Liaison Officers.
  • Select and train sport specific volunteers in conjunction with the Human Resources Department and the National Governing Body (NGB).
  • Provide a specific sport input into venue planning and operations for all competition and training sites across the UK.
  • Attend meetings and liaise as necessary in the absence of the Football Manager, reporting and taking action as required.
  • Manage the development of the Paralympic competition in close consultation with the NGB until the appointment of the Paralympic Coordinator is made.

Key knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications required:

  • Experience of logistical and operational football event management.
  • Exposure to international matches under the auspices of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association).
  • Experience of working with the Football Association and FIFA with significant knowledge of their organisations and structure.
  • Extensive experience of working on or at major national or international football matches.
  • An understanding/knowledge of the operational elements needed to deliver a major football competition.
  • Experience of working in a multi-department environment with diverse agendas and priorities often causing you to multi-task and work to tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK.
