Dan Brown's mascot experience

John and Lynda Brown have attended England matches regularly over the years.

However, after a traffic accident in 2000 John is now a wheelchair user. John and Lynda have a son Dan and they are all avid Wolves fans as well as being members of englandfans+.

John explains: “The membership scheme has been good to us. It enables us to get tickets in advance of the public sale and at a reduced cost. It's also been a tremendous help having someone to understand our ticket requirements when we ring up.”

Dan entered an englandfans competition to be a mascot for the last match at Old Trafford, England v Spain, which was a dream come true for the 11 year old.

“On the day, Lynda and Dan arrived early for a stadium tour. They had a chance to take a few photos and were given a goodie bag. Dan was taken for refreshments with the other mascots and then they rehearsed what they had to do," John said.

"They then got changed into the new England kit and drew names out of a hat to see which mascot walked out with which player. He drew Ben Foster and although he was really excited, he was a little bit nervous too!”

Lining up in the tunnel with the players, press and the roar of the crowd is something never to be forgotten with English and Spanish players saying “hi” and shaking his hand.

“He hasn’t washed it since, but that’s an 11 year old lad for you!” John joked.

With proud parents watching from the crowd, Dan stepped out with the team and kept his promise and his cool, remembering to give John a huge wave from pitch side. There were friends and relatives ringing up later to say that they saw him on TV.

Dan plays in midfield for Stafford Rangers Junior club so hopefully sometime in the future, he can walk out as a player which may be just about when Theo Walcott is hanging up his boots!

Hopefully other boys and girls like Dan will get the chance to walk out on to the Wembley pitch and have the best day of their lives. Who knows, one day perhaps it could be Dan Brown that leads out the team...
