Brian Barwick - Chief Executive
Brian was appointed Chief Executive of The FA in late 2004 and took up the role on January 31, 2005. Prior to The FA, Brian was ITV’s Controller of Sport for seven years.
Whilst at ITV, Brian headed television coverage of two FIFA World Cups in 1998 and 2002 plus the European Championships of 2000 and 2004. He led successful rights negotiations for these championships, UEFA Champions League, The Rugby World Cup, Formula One, The Boat Race, Super Bowl and Tour de France. Brian brought presenters Des Lynam and Gabby Logan to ITV and also launched Britain’s fastest growing digital channel, ITV2, in 1998.
Brian was born and educated in Liverpool, gaining a degree in Economics at Liverpool University. After a spell as a journalist, he joined the BBC’s sports department in 1979. During his 18-year career at the BBC he was editor of Match of the Day, Football Focus and Sportsnight. He oversaw major events including the FIFA World Cups of 1990 and 1994, the Barcelona and Atlanta Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games plus the European and World Athletics Championships. He was responsible for BBC Television’s Sports Review Of The Year between 1991 and 1995.
As The FA’s Chief Executive, Brian is looking forward to bringing his lifelong love of football and his professional knowledge of the game to the post.
Sir Trevor Brooking - Director of Football Development
Trevor signed for West Ham United as a professional in 1966, remaining at the club until retiring in 1984. He made 635 appearances, scored 102 goals and won The FA Cup with the club in 1975 and 1980. He played 47 times for England, scoring five goals and featuring in the 1980 European Championship and 1982 World Cup.
Trevor has been particularly well known for his match commentating and summarising for the BBC. He retired as Chairman of Sport England in October 2002 and was a Director of West Ham United before joining The FA as Director of Football Development in January 2004, and oversees the operations of FA Learning.
Jonathan Hall - Director of Governance
Jonathan joined The FA as its Director of Governance in September 2004, with responsibility for a wide range of matters including discipline, compliance, financial advisory unit, registrations, competitions, refereeing and football administration.
Prior to joining The FA, Jonathan was Secretary and Legal Officer at the Rugby Football Union for just under 5 years where he was directly responsible for legal matters and company secretarial support to the RFU Council and Board as well as overseeing HR matters and the administration of disciplinary arrangements.
Prior to the RFU, Jonathan worked as an in-house lawyer for the sports management IMG and, prior to that, he was a solicitor with the American law firm Baker McKenzie.
Jonathan Hill - Group Commercial Director
Jonathan first worked for The FA across 1994-96 running the commercial side of EURO 96. After a seven-year spell at sports marketing agency IMG running the European Football Division, Jonathan re-joined The FA Group becoming Marketing and Communications Director for the new Wembley Stadium project.
In December 2003, the wheel turned full circle and Jonathan re-joined The FA as Group Commercial Director, responsible for all commercial and broadcast areas. Jonathan started his career in the marketing departments of Thames TV, LWT and then NBC Europe.
Adrian Bevington - Director of Communications
Adrian joined The FA as a press officer in November 1997 and held several positions within the Communications area of the organisation before becoming Head of Media Relations in April 2003.
In addition to managing the media team of the third most quoted organisation in the UK, Adrian has also been responsible for the whole Communications Division since August 2004.
Prior to joining The FA he enjoyed roles including that of trainee reporter with ICI’s company newspaper and Senior Publications Officer at Middlesbrough Football Club. At Boro’ he was responsible for the match day and monthly magazine, several books, while playing a senior role within the club’s PR and press team.
Andrew Halstead - Director of Operations
Andrew‘s career has spanned technical, consultancy and management roles in the financial, engineering and business services sectors and he has held senior roles in several FTSE 100 companies.
Andrew is responsible for the smooth running of The FA's teams, events, facilities and systems. His Division manages all The FA offices, and his IT team runs the information systems for Soho Square, Wembley, Lilleshall and the County FAs. Andrew is Project Director for the development of The National Football Centre.
Simon Johnson - Director of Corporate Affairs
Simon joined The FA in April 2005, as Director of Corporate Affairs, having just left the FA Premier League, where he was the Director of Legal & Business Affairs.
Prior to that, he held the Senior Legal and Business position at ITV, where he was responsible for all of ITV’s programme commissioning and acquisitions business, including sport where, with Brian Barwick, he helped ITV to negotiate the rights to a wide range of sports events. Having been "across the table" from The FA in many rights negotiations, he is now looking forward to being part of the team.
Simon’s responsibilities include looking after the Legal Department, Ethics and Sports Equity, Customer Relations and englandfans. The rest of the time, he spends with his wife and three children, whom he is desperately trying to encourage to support his beloved Leeds United.
Alex Horne - Director of Finance
Alex trained in Coopers and Lybrand as a Chartered Accountant before moving into the business recovery practice. He then spent two years living in Bangkok working on financial restructuring assignments. After two years in the Far East he returned to London to join a Business Regeneration practice, working on a number of business improvement and corporate turnaround assignments.
Alex joined The FA in July 2003, initially on secondment until accepting a permanent role in February 2004.
