The FA has today sent out the proposed new Football Agents Regulations for further general consultation, following objections and the threat of a possible legal action raised by some agents.

The new regulations will come into force on 1 September this year, to replace the existing domestic agents regulations which have been in place since 1 January 2006.

The date of 1 September has been set as it immediately follows the closing of the summer transfer window on 31 August and therefore avoids two separate systems being operated during the same transfer window. There is no intention of abandoning the key principles previously included in the regulations.

The FA has consulted with all sectors of the game throughout the process to ensure that a comprehensive, fair and effective set of regulations is put in place. In this latest round of consultation, parties are invited to submit their comments on the proposed regulations and associated documents by 8 June, following which The FA will publish a final set of the regulations and associated documents on 29 June in advance of their implementation on 1 September 2007.

The Regulations will therefore be published six months before the January 2008 transfer window opens, with two months for familiarisation ahead of 1 September 2007. The FA will be providing support and education over the next six months through the publication of detailed guidance notes and meetings with clubs, leagues, players, managers and agents.

In addition to the proposed Regulations and associated documents (the Standard Representation Contracts and the Agents Panel Terms of Reference), the following documents have been prepared by The FA and can be downloaded below:
