Jeff Winter will referee The FA Cup Final in his final season on the National List
Monday, 05 April 2004.
TheFA.com can reveal that Jeff Winter will referee The FA Cup Final tie between Manchester United and Millwall next month.
Winter, a Select Group referee, was confirmed by The FA Referees Committee today after an excellent season - his last as a top-flight referee.
At 48 years-old, the North Riding official has reached the age of retirement from the National List of referees, and will mark his departure in style with a trip to the Millennium Stadium for the climax of the English domestic season on 22nd May.
The FA Cup Final will be the pinnacle of Winter's career and, as with every year, he was chosen based on his performances in the middle this term, as determined by match assessors and delegates.
Referees may only officiate The Final once in their career and, being a domestic competition, The FA Cup is open to all those who officiate on the National List.
