FIFA honour for Thompson
Wednesday, 30 May 2007.
FA Chairman Geoff Thompson has been formally nominated as FIFA Vice-President representing the four British Associations.
At a special meeting of the four associations held on Wednesday in Zurich, the decision was taken to withdraw the nomination of John McBeth of Scotland.

Thompson will be inaugurated at the FIFA Congress on Thursday and will serve a four-year term.
He said: "I am very honoured to be nominated for this position and would like to thank the national associations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for the trust they have placed in me.
"I have gained considerable experience of the world game over the years and look forward to making a real contribution to the FIFA Executive Committee's debate and decisions on behalf of British football."
He will be succeeded by Northern Ireland's Jim Boyce in 2011.
