Acting Chief Executive David Davies today pledged to move The FA forward 'from today'.

Davies has been appointed alongside Nic Coward to lead The FA through the interim period before the new Chief Executive is appointed and he was bullish about the future when talking to the congregated press at a news conference here in Soho Square.

"We believe we are now moving forward and we will start doing that from today," he said. Some questions from the floor in today's press conference centred on the future of Sven-Goran Eriksson but both Davies and Eriksson himself were unequivocal on the subject.

"It's important that people understand that we have an outstanding football coach," said Davies.

"We are thrilled at the answers that we were able to give Sven so quickly after today's Board meeting. He simply wanted to know who he reported to now. That's completely understandable and something that has now been resolved in a very positive way."

Sven added: "I hadn't said anything to the mass media before now because I was waiting to hear what was going on.

"I had a very good relationship with Adam [Crozier] on both a personal and professional level and I was sad that he left. But I am sure that I will also work very well with David [Davies] and Nic [Coward]."
