Adams' Awards

Organisations promoting mental health awareness claim Tony Adams Awards.

Former England captain Tony Adams recognised three organisations from around the country for their work in supporting mental health issues in football before the Tickets for Troops International at Wembley Stadium on Monday evening.

The Everton Foundation’s Rob Thomas, North East London Foundation Trust/Air Football’s Colin Whitty and Steven Bell of the Bucks Early Intervention all won Tony Adams Awards for outstanding work in the community and raising awareness about mental health.

Adams, who made over 500 appearances for Arsenal and established these awards through his Sporting Chance charity, commented: “We’ve worked with The FA for several years in highlighting the need for awareness in mental health and I truly believe that sport and football can be a gateway or conduit in enabling people to strive for more in their own lives.”

The FA has formed a Mental Health Advisory Group which will oversee football’s commitment in this area while the Premier League’s Imagine Your Goals campaign is raising awareness across the country.
