Sir Trevor remembers Sir Bobby

Sir Trevor Brooking fondly remembers former England Manager Sir Bobby Robson.

"Everyone in football will be extremely sad," said Sir Trevor.

"Sir Bobby was well liked and in the last few years has tried to find a balance with his treatment with a huge amount of fund raising for cancer in order to leave a legacy after all the help and support he has received in his illness.

"Of course his football achievements will always be remembered."

The FA's Director of Football Development added: "I knew him as a player when he was at Ipswich and he was a very good friend of Ron Greenwood, almost a coaching disciple of his.

"Ron brought him into the England structure with the B team and he was then his successor to take over as the manager.

"The 1990 World Cup Semi-Final against Germany will always be remembered and I think whoever won that game would have beaten Argentina in the Final.

"His club record was exceptional, both at home and abroad where he had massive achievements with Barcelona, PSV and Sporting Lisbon.

"I don't think any British coach has gone abroad and been so successful."
