The FA

FA partnership with BMF

The FA partners with the Bobby Moore Fund in 2009.

Stephanie Moore MBE paid a visit to the England camp today where The FA confirmed the Bobby Moore Fund as one of its chosen Charity Partners for 2009.

Stephanie met with FA Chairman Lord Triesman, Director of Football Development Sir Trevor Brooking and Head of International Teams and England Goalkeeping Coach Ray Clemence.

The FA men presented a cheque to the BMF for £40,000 which is just one of several ways in which the Association will help the charity over the coming year.

The Bobby Moore Fund raises money for research into bowel cancer and also increases public awareness of the disease.

To date, the BMF has generated over £10 million for dedicated bowel cancer research. The funds are spent on high-quality research carried out by leading scientists working across the UK.

Bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK after breast and lung cancer. Almost 100 people in this country are diagnosed with the disease every day. Bowel cancer affects similar numbers of men and women.

The England players already support the BMF in their own right by donating international match fees and giving up their personal time to observe the research and raise awareness.

As Stephanie spent time in the England camp today the players were reporting for the upcoming international double-header against Slovakia and Ukraine. The BMF is also in partnership with Wembley Stadium and the statue of England's legendary captain takes pride of place at the top of Olympic Way.

The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK and The Geoff Thomas Foundation are the official FA Charity Partners for 2009.

These two charities join long-term partners British Heart Foundation, Everyman and Coaching for Hope with all five organisations receiving £40,000 from this season’s FA Community Shield and a host of other FA benefits, including: signed England shirts for auction, exposure in The FA’s matchday programmes, tickets for England internationals at Wembley Stadium and an event at The FA’s HQ.

The FA also made a one-off donation earlier this year to Sir Bobby Robson at the opening of his Cancer Trials Research Centre in the North East.

On today's BMF announcement Stephanie Moore said: "We are excited to have been chosen as one of The Football Association’s Charity Partners for 2009.

"This partnership highlights the important role football has to play in communities worldwide. The FA and the Bobby Moore Fund will work in partnership to raise vital funds for bowel cancer research and to help break down the social taboos which continue to make bowel cancer the unspoken disease.

"Together, we hope we can use Bobby’s name to motivate and inspire the ‘football family’ to join us to meet the challenge of tackling bowel cancer."

Lord Triesman commented: "Bowel cancer claimed the life of Bobby Moore in 1993 and today it is the third highest cause of cancer death in the UK. Everyone at The FA is really looking forward to working with the Bobby Moore Fund and being part of their vision to beat the disease."
