Ray Olivier will be hoping to help referees in the Caribbean with this course.
Refs make Trinidad trip
Monday, 15 October 2007.
FA referees Ed Stone and Ray Olivier will be travelling to Trinidad to deliver an Intermediate Course to match officials from all around the Caribbean.
CONCACAF requested the workshop with a view to improving the standard of refereeing throughout the confederation, which hopes to provide more match officials for future FIFA competitions.
Stone and Olivier are two of The FA’s most experienced course instructors and have led the way in developing referees in all of The FA’s partner countries through the International Development Programme (IDP).
Between them this year, the two FA Regional Referees Managers have already covered CONMEBOL, AFC and OFC as part of The FA’s IDP.
“Visiting the various countries I have over the past couple of years has been of immense benefit to me on a professional as well as personal level, but also to the reputation of The FA,” said Olivier.
“The FA instructors are always well received, whether it be in Ecuador or Fiji, and Ed and I are delighted to be travelling to the Caribbean to share our experiences with the referees who will be attending the course.
“The FA’s efforts internationally to develop all aspects of football - from coaching to refereeing – are greatly respected and appreciated and it is the right thing for The FA to do, as it is the leading national association in many of these areas.”
The FA’s refereeing department has seen a surge in demand for its courses, with Keith Hill and Alan Wilkie leading a course in South Africa which has requested a specific focus on this area in its Memorandum of Understanding, signed with The FA at the start of 2007.
The South African Football Association is also keen to develop and improve the standard of its match officials with the 2010 World on the horizon.
The Head of National Referee Development, Ian Blanchard, will be returning to Kuala Lumpur shortly to again lend his expertise in the recruitment of referees and referees assistants.
