The FA is continues its work with CONCACAF this week with a Fitness Training workshop in Trinidad.
The 4-day workshop in Tunapuna is the second of three planned in the continent this year. An International Coaching License course was held in January.
The FA has a very advanced exercise science support structure compared to other nations and the International Development Programme provides a platform on which to share this expertise.
The course will have practical and theoretical elements and will cover a range of topics. These include nutritional advice, environmental issues, fitness testing and a host of training methods.
The speakers are Richard Hawkins, FA Deputy head of Exercise Science and Donough Holohan, Fitness and Conditioning coach at Preston FC and Hull City FC. Richard is The FA’s fitness expert and is responsible for implementing exercise science strategies for England teams, the content of some FA courses and performance testing in the academies. Donough Holohan also brings a lot of experience to the Caribbean. He has in the past worked as a Sports Scientist and Fitness coach with football clubs and England squads.
Richard Hawkins said "The course is aimed at providing practical messages to CONCACAF coaches to assist them in preparing physically for International competition. It is a fantastic opportunity to share some of the excellent support strategies we have in place with our International teams."
The FA enjoy a very good relationship with CONCACAF and its member associations. Earlier this month, FA chairman Geoff Thompson received a special award for services to football in the CONCACAF region at the Hall of Fame at the CONCACAF congress in Grenada.
