Over thirty coaches from across the North, Central and Caribbean region of CONCACAF completed the FA International Coaching Licence course at the Dr João Havelange Centre of Excellence in Trinidad.
FA Instructors Roger Soper and Steve Rutter led the 10-day intensive programme which covered an extensive range of issues including Modern Tactics and Strategies, and the short, medium and long–term preparation of football teams. Almost all the participants were awarded the FA International Coaching Licence which is the equivalent of the UEFA 'B' Licence and a prerequisite for the Advanced Licence.
Countries represented include Antigua & Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Costa Rica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, St. Lucia, St. Kitts-Nevis, Turks & Caicos Islands, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, USA, US Virgin Islands and Belize, whose Technical Director was awarded the only 'A' pass of the course.
The participants included one lady, Izler Browne, who gave the final vote of thanks: "It was a great course although demanding", said Browne. "We learned a lot and I am sure it will bring great benefits to our respective countries".
Caribbean Football Union General Secretary, Harold Taylor, added his thanks for The FA's contribution to the CONCACAF development programme: "I want to thank Roger and Steve for the great job they are doing and to thank The FA for their continuing support of CONCACAF. It is a relationship which continues to grow from strength to strength every year".
"This is the third consecutive year that we are running this course within the framework of the FA-CONCACAF Co-operation Agreement ", explained Jane Bateman, Head of International Relations. "CONCACAF is committed to improving the quality and qualifications of its coaches and we are pleased that we are able to lend our expertise and share our views".
In the past 3 years, The FA has trained close to 1000 people on its courses at the Centre of Excellence. The next event in the 2004 programme will be a Fitness Training Workshop in May.
