A go-ahead Nottinghamshire junior football club which lays claim to running more competitive teams than any other in the country, has been busy putting their numerous officials and volunteers through Child protection and best practice workshops.
West Bridgford Colts began in 1991 with the intention of providing local children with the chance to have fun playing football. Since then, they’ve expanded to the extent that they now run 37 competitive teams from Under-6 to Under-18.
In all, the club has a membership of approximately 700, and has recently achieved FA Charter Standard and Development Club status.
Club spokesman David Marsh says it all points to an even more successful and safer future.
“Parents rightly want to know that their children are being coached and are playing in a safe environment," Marsh said.
"With our elevation to Development Club Standard this is certainly the case.”
Identity badges are to be issued to adults following Criminal Records Bureau vetting procedures which will raise the profile of child protection issues and provide an easily recognised point of contact with the club, while increasing the confidence of parents to challenge individuals who may appear to be operating in an inappropriate manner.
