It's an easy assumption to make: that someone looking after a child is automatically qualified to look after children.
The new football season might be up and running, but the school holidays are still only half way through. That means thousands of children all over the country will be spending time at summer soccer schools and training days. But as children are dropped off, how many parents ask about the experience and qualifications of those running the courses?
Of course, in the vast majority of cases holiday courses are run by enthusiastic and dedicated people who provide enjoyable, active sessions for youngsters.
The F.A.'s aim with Goal is to make Child protection and best practice an issue on everyone's agenda. Instead of taking for granted what has always happened, anyone involved in running football for children is challenged to look at what they do and question whether it is in the best interests of the child.
Child protection and best practice - A guide provides a basic awareness of issues and appropriate courses of action. This is taken further in The F.A.'s child protection workshops that have been attended by over thirty thousand people involved in junior football.
Child protection and best practice - A guide is available now for £7.50. Workshops are run regularly throughout the country.
